well, that depends. i haven't played either in a loooong time but i will try to offer some help.
lol, fyi, if you dont want to read all of this just skip to the bottom.maplestory offers real-time action while runescape is pretty much point and click (with the option to switch between the fighting styles). in runescape you can pretty much shape up your character any way you want, just go out and raise a skill and if you still feel you're lacking in something you can just go back and work on that skill aswell. in maplestory, you level up to a certain level and then specialize in one specific class from there on, and once you pick that class you're stuck with it (though you can advance on up to higher ranks within that class). runescape's community was always a bad one but maplestory has a relatively friendly one. you'll only run into trouble if you look for it, whereas in runescape, it finds you. exploration in runescape is far more rewarding and fun since it's a 3D world, and exploration in maplestory is simply going through more 2D maps with different monsters and back drops. maplestory has a map that allows you to fast-travel to different spots while you'll have to walk everywhere in runescape with the exception of the newbie area. i would say you pick runescape though, just because it has a little extra to offer, and a kickass tutorial introduction. ![]() |

Runescape gets my vote too. MapleStory used to be great but, more recently I think Runescape beats it hands down.
Guild Wars is pretty good too and its free to play after you get the game .
